Economic success. Squared.
Economic success- characterised by ideas, innovation, efficiency, productivity, industrial diversity, openness, creativity, culture and clever minds - that’s Mannheim, the city of squares. The bustling and popular city centre is known for its unique checkered design: the squares A to U. Mannheim is the centre of the Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region, too. But above all, Mannheim is the leading location for successful and creative companies.
Economic power attracts.
Companies are committed to the business location Mannheim, shown by their large-scale investments. Roche Diagnostics, a global leader in the healthcare industry, transfers R&D for insulin pump systems to Mannheim and startet 2012 building additional laboratory and office facilities, investing € 32 million. Dentsply Implants, a global leader in dental implantology, is growing as well and has been gaining market share for years now. In 2012, the Dentsply group’s Center for Implantology has been extended through the acquisition of AstraTech, the dental division of AstraZeneca.
Not only the health care industry is booming in Mannheim. Fuchs Petrolub, a successful family-owned company that is the world's leading supplier of lubricants among the independent companies, invested € 25 million in the construction of a technology centre and office buildings in Mannheim. In June 2012, Pepperl + Fuchs, specialist for industrial sensors, opened a modern logistic centre for distribution in Europe, worth € 15 million.
The place where ideas become innovations.
In 2001, a team of physicians, physicists and computer scientists of the Universities of Mannheim and Heidelberg presented the first prototype of the eye surgery simulator “Eyesi”. Today, the company VRmagic is a leading provider of virtual reality simulators for medical training in the field of ophthalmology. More than 120 simulators are in use in hospitals worldwide for education and training of ophthalmologists.
At the Institute for Medical Technology (IMT) and the Centre for Medical Research (ZFM), the “Smart Band-Aid” has been developed together with many partners. A sensor integrated into a Band-Aid determines organ function by analysing light signals of a previously injected diagnostic agent. This awarded technology led to the spin-off of the Mannheim Pharma & Diagnostics.
An environment of sciences, culture and opportunities.
Mannheim’s landscape of higher education is as diverse as the city. 5,000 university graduates every year provide high potential for companies. This is highly appreciated by many companies as one of the most significant location factors, next to the ideal logistical location and high quality of life.
