Under the project name Medical Technology Incubator, a 1,700 square meter business incubator for medical technology companies is to be established in the former hospital pharmacy building on the campus of the Mannheim University Medical Center. The incubator concept includes offices, laboratories and workshops as well as an experimental intervention room with next-generation imaging technologies, which will be installed with the support of Siemens Healthcare. In addition to young medical technology companies, the Fraunhofer Society will also move into the incubator pilot with its growing project group for automation in medicine and biotechnology (PAMB).
To set up the MedTech Incubator, the investor Klinikum Mannheim GmbH is initially converting the hospital pharmacy building. MG: Mannheimer Gründungszentren GmbH is taking over the center’s operation in close professional consultation with the medical technology cluster in the department of economic and structural development aid.
The MedTech Incubator in addition constitutes the key infrastructure element of the Mannheim Molecular Intervention Environment (M²OLIE) research program. In order to support the young companies in product development and marketing as well as the targeted utilization of M²OLIE research findings in healthcare, eight experienced medical device industry experts provide advisory and consulting services on-site.
